Hoi An In Love
As we near the end of eight weeks school holidays, last week we embarked on a mini family get away to Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An, Vietnam. I’ve been to HCMC once before briefly and loved it. There’s something about the hustle, the buzz and most importantly the food in this country. So fresh, so tasty and so good!!! Now having seen more of this country and culture, I’m Hoi An In Love.
But, before the culture comes the fashion!
MLM – The Perfect Holiday LBD and ON SALE!
I’ve blogged about this little black MLM Pillar Shoulder Dress previously. I bought this dress at Little Island Store in Bali and have found it so versatile I’ve probably over worn it. My original blog on the dress was MLM Up and Down and showcased how to style the dress in two ways. Dressed down for day with Adidas Superstars and glammed up for night with Vintage Century heels. Travelling with carry on luggage only makes you ensure every piece packed is essential. This MLM dress is the perfect travel dress to cover a bit of glam from day to evening and then full evening glam for a bit of roof top bar action in HCMC. I also wore the dress out in Hoi An late in the afternoon and into dinner, with flats and a cross body Gucci bag. The strapless top and ruffled arm detail make for a statement piece. I felt very cool, yet comfortable and appropriately dressed for this town at the same time.
And guess what! – The dress is ON SALE through my OAGD Shop now. Link through and shop the MLM Pillar Shoulder Dress for $53.70 today. Sale until stocks last. Get your hands on the perfect travel/ summer dress asap. SHOP NOW. (Click through on product for sale price).
I knew very little about Hoi An and what a beautiful surprise. We stayed just outside the Ancient Town, which was a perfect location in between the beach and the centre hub. We hired bikes and explored the town. Unfortunately, it was raining majority of the time so no beach activities, however I could picture how idyllic it would be under the palms in the belting sun and heat.
The Ancient Town is full of colour, local markets, cafes and restaurants. Based along the river with only pedestrians, bikes and scooters allowed, it’s a bustling area to spend a day or two cruising around. The grand architecture and colour being the legacy of Japanese merchant houses, Chinese temples and ancient tea warehouses is so pretty. Bright yellows, greens, pinks and blues from building to building, with pretty lanterns hung in between.
It’s hard to not spend the whole time in Vietnam eating! In Hoi An we had the best Banh Mi we’ve ever had at Banh Mi Phuong Hoi An and possibly one of the best dinner experiences ever at Morning Glory. Ms Vy started Morning Glory and also runs the Ms Vy Market Restaurant and Cooking School in Hoi An, along with Morning Glory 2 and Cargo. She is also becoming very well known in Australia with her House of Hoian Restaurant in Melbourne. We had a private family cooking class for 2.5 hours. Starting with a tour of the market restaurant and then cooking 4 dishes with our own chef was such a memorable and fun family experience. The combination of flavours and fresh foods that go into the Vietnamese cooking is a perfect balance. I’m hoping I can replicate some of the dishes in my kitchen at home, but not feeling very confident.
Dishes we cooked were: Pomelo Salad with Chicken and Prawn, Bun Bo Xao – Stir Fried Beef, Rice Noodles and Herbs, Deep Fried Spring Rolls and Steamed White Rose Dumplings.
If you’re in Hoi An, I would highly recommend a day at the Ms Vy Market Restaurant and Cooking School, along with dinner at Morning Glory.
Make sure you put Hoi An on your bucket list. We loved it.
