I’m not generally a big fan of Valentine’s Day, but having come across these two gorgeous dresses by Little Joe Woman, I thought the timing was perfect to blog a Valentine’s Edit with Gail Elliott.
It’s no secret one of my favourite labels is Bali based brand Little Joe Woman, by Gail Elliott. I’ve had the opportunity to get to know Gail through my Blog, Bali events and recent in-store visits with my new Bali Shopping Experiences.
Little Joe Woman By Gail Elliott
As one of the original Supermodels of the 80s and 90s, Gail had a long and successful modelling career based in New York for twenty-four years. Working with talented photographers, stylists, models and fashion designers taught Gail a great deal about clothing, fit, colour, style and design. There came a time when Gail realised the need to express her learnings, fashion thoughts and feelings creatively. Gail’s first designs were very simple and consisted of six silk slips and six silk camisoles in six colours. They were pieces she wanted to wear and couldn’t find in stores at the time and that also worked with her hectic travel schedule. These initial pieces were easy to pack and made her feel good and so, the Little Joe Woman by Gail Elliott brand was born.
See my original Little Joe Woman blog post for more on the brand. Supermodel Sense Of Style.
Valentine’s Edit with Gail Elliott
Through her daily Instagram posts, Gail is quite open about her feelings for husband and soulmate Joe Coffey. As they base their lives in Bali, they are often seen lunching, walking the pooches or shooting new campaigns for Little Joe. Joe is the man behind the lens for most of the photo shoots.
With love in the air, I decided to talk romance with Gail …..
What is the most romantic city you’ve ever been too?
The most romantic city I’ve visited has to be Paris. With all the beautiful architecture, coffee shops on every corner, quaint boutique hotels such as L’Hotel in the Marais, walking through the Tuileries gardens, hot chocolate & croissants for breakfast at Angelina on the Rue De Rivoli and dinners at Hotel Costes all add to the romance. If you happen to go from London, taking the Eurostar train is fun….plus Paris is where I started dating my husband twenty three years ago so memories of this city are ones I’ll always treasure!
If you want to feel super sexy, what colour do you wear?
It depends on which country or city I’m in – if I’m in New York or Sydney I’d find black a sexy colour to wear but in Bali wearing white makes me feel sexy and fresh.
What is your favourite restaurant in Bali for date night?
I have a few favourite restaurants in Bali….there are so many amazing choices! Sardine is always a treat with the freshest of produce, great service, extensive wine list and impossibly beautiful view out over the rice paddies. Mama San and their sister restaurant Tiger Palm offer a fresh, spicy Asian Fusion menu of delicious Masaman curry, Pad Thai and an amazing raw tuna salad. One Eyed Jack is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Bali where everything on the menu tastes fantastic – the room is dimly lit and always has a cool crowd. And lastly, I love La Lucciola in Seminyak with it’s breezy, outdoor, Joglo style setting with palm trees and an expansive lawn overlooking the Indian ocean.
What’s your favourite Romance movie?
I have two favourite romantic movies, the 1990’s movie Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, and the 1999 movie Notting Hill with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. I guess I’m a bit of a Julia Roberts fan! Both movies have aged well and are still fun and entertaining.
Do you normally celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Yes of course! Birthdays and Valentine’s Day are very special days to show people how much you care and love them. My husband and I always take the afternoon off work to have a long lunch somewhere and I always send our mothers Valentine’s Day flowers!
How did you meet Joe?
I met Joe Coffey, who is my husband and business partner of our luxe, contemporary womenswear brand Little Joe Woman by Gail Elliott, at a Sydney nightclub that he used to own, on New Year’s Eve twenty three years ago! Helena Christensen was dating the late Michael Hutchence at the time and they’d invited me to Australia with them. It was my first visit to Australia and we flew to the Gold Coast from New York to celebrate Christmas with his parents. Afterwards we drove to Sydney via Byron Bay and Michael took us to Kinsela’s nightclub and introduced us to his friend Joe Coffey. Joe and I married three years later in Amagansett, The Hamptons N.Y and Helena was one of my bridesmaids along with other good friends Cindy Crawford and Yasmin Le Bon. Joe I celebrated our twenty year wedding anniversary last September.
What’s your secret for a happy and long lasting relationship?
To have a long and lasting relationship isn’t really a secret! It’s just about putting that person before you, loving, respecting and appreciating them, and the people around you.
Do you have a favourite love song?
Not really. I’m into Sam Smith at the moment but listen to everything from Nickelback or Plan B to Jeff Buckley or Spotify at my office.
What perfume do you wear out on a date?
On a date with my husband I wear Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and for everyday I wear Chanel No 19.
What is the most romantic moment you have experienced?
For our eleventh year wedding anniversary Joe had ELEVEN DOZEN long stemmed Columbian roses delivered to our house – have you ever seen eleven dozen roses in one huge vase…it was the most romantic thing ever….!
I always love taking a traditionally beautiful piece and grunging it down. Something that is an obvious evening or special occasion outfit and styling it for everyday wear. Here’s my take on these two stunning dresses themed for “Elegant Grunge”.
